Hugo van Kretschmar: the Trawler Traveller

In 2003, Past Commodore Hugo van Kretschmar purchased the Tasmanian cray fishing boat Ada Hardy and set about converting her for a planned world circumnavigation. Hugo and his wife Karen left Sydney in 2008 and have so far completed half of their planned voyage – they like to take it slow and cruise for approximately three to four months each year.

At 1830hrs 12 March, Hugo will be at the Club to present a talk of his epic journey. The presentation will cover the history and conversion of Ada Hardy and subsequent travels and adventures to destinations including the Louisiade Islands, the Kimberley, Thailand, Myanmar, the Andaman Islands, Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, Venice, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, the Riviera, the Atlantic coasts of Spain, Portugal & France, the canals of Holland, northern Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

Ada Hardy is currently north of the Arctic Circle in Norway where Karen and Hugo have just spent three weeks cruising in sub-zero temperatures to experience the Northern Lights. You can find out more about Hugo’s adventures at trawlertraveller.com.
