Michael Selby’s X412 Cyrene 3 held on to the Overall win of the 2024/25 Club Marine Short Haul Pointscore after the 11th and final race of the series was held on Saturday March 22.
But it was Roy Melick and David Jacobs’ Dehler 41DS First Light which came away with the win on PHS on Saturday, in moderate southerly winds. Geoff Player’s Beneteau Sense 50 Silver Minx placed second followed by Robyn Drew’s Sydney 36 Yputakiteup in third place.
Yputakiteup placed second to Cyrene 3 in the overall series, followed by Gunnar Tuisk’s Farr 50 Cadenza in third place.
Saturday was also the penultimate race of the 2024/25 Club Marine Short Ocean Pointscore. Matt Wilkinson from the Farr 30 Foreign Affair described the race as a “fun and quick” one.
“We had a nice spinnaker run to the heads in 10 knots and then a fairly benign work to the top mark in a southerly that built to 20 knots,” Wilkinson said. “The first run was a blast, sitting on mid-teens and occasionally higher. The breeze softened for the rest of the race but got us home quite quickly.”
CYCA Commodore Sam Hayne’s and his crew on board the new Cape 31 Celestial C31 had a good day out on the water, placing first on both PHS and scratch. David Davies BH 36 Local Hero placed second on PHS followed by Foreign Affair.
“Local Hero always provides stiff competition and they got us by seven seconds this time,” Wilkinson said.
Michael Blaxell’s Dubois 30 Highway Patrol is in the lead on PHS with one race left if the series. Kym Evans’ Seaquest RP36 Whistling Kite is second and Local Hero third. It leads on IRC, followed by Whistling Kite, just 3.6 points behind.
“We had perfect conditions for Local Hero on Saturday,” Davies said. “The boat is going really well and the crew had another faultless day. Foreign Affair had us comfortably beaten but they were unlucky, falling into a hole just before the finish.
“The IRC pointscore is still very close and the pressure will be on for the final race.”
The last race is scheduled for April 5.
