Cyrene 3 claims close Short Haul Pointscore Night Harbour Race win

Michael Selby’s X 412 Cyrene 3 was just too good in Friday’s Short Haul Pointscore Night Harbour Race, clinching the PHS Division victory less than 30 seconds clear of her closest rival.

The Night Harbour Race tests teams in conditions some may not be accustomed to – racing on Sydney Harbour as dusk falls and in the dark of the early evening.

Starting at 1900hrs in a gentle 8-10 knots from the south-east, teams navigated their way around the course before finishing between 2030 and 2130hrs in 4-6 knots.

Cyrene 3 put on a great show, crossing the line first of the 14-strong fleet, before waiting for their competitors to finish and solidify the results. The team had done enough to hold onto victory, however, even though Ian Guanaria’s Beneteau First 35 One More-No More did come nail-bitingly close.

One More-No More were consoled with IRC Handicap victory though, followed by Cyrene 3 second and Rod Wills X 43 Great Xpectations third.

The next Short Haul Pointscore race – the first of the Short Haul Passage races – is scheduled for 1100hrs Saturday 21 November. Teams will race from Sydney to Pittwater, stay overnight in the northern port, then race from Pittwater back to Sydney the following day.
