Black Jack and InfoTrack had a tight tussle in the CYCA Trophy Series

CYCA Trophy Series proves vital for Rolex Sydney Hobart preparation

The CYCA Trophy Series provided the final passage races in the lead up to the historic 75th Sydney Hobart held on Boxing Day later this month. The two-race offshore series ensured that the final preparations were in place for Rolex Sydney Hobart competitors.

The battle for line honours went down to the wire between 100-foot super maxis InfoTrack and Black Jack who each took a race win in the series. It was Christian Beck’s InfoTrack who claimed the scratch honours over Peter Harburg’s Black Jack, which was a great stepping stone for the team.

InfoTrack Sailing Master, Tony Mutter commented on the two-race series win, “We’ve just had a couple of great days racing with Black Jack, and that was really good for us and I guess good for them to see where their boats sits now. They beat us on the Saturday and then we got a win yesterday. We know pretty much where we are and where they are as well.”

In IRC, Marcus Blackmore’s TP52 Hooligan claimed the top spot in the 14 boat fleet, after winning both races on the corrected time. Keiran and Elizabeth Mulcahy’s Soozal sailed into second place, as they prepared the boat and crew for the upcoming Rolex Sydney Hobart after the King 40 was launched for Sydney-based racing just last month. Soozal also placed first on ORCi and PHS over the weekend.

Carlo Crafoord and Tim Horkings’ Cookson 12, Sail Exchange, placed second on ORCi as well as third on PHS in the CYCA Trophy Sereis. The tightly fought passage series gives evidence that the Rolex Sydney Hobart will be a hotly contested race, with 160 yachts currently undergoing their final preparations for the great race south.
