Congratulations to CYCA Member and YSA Alumni, Will Ryan, who is now an Olympic champion.
Ryan and his skipper Mat Belcher won the Men’s 470 Class gold medal in dominant style, securing the gold with a race to spare.
But the Aussie pair were unrelenting in the Medal Race, signing off from Tokyo 2020 with one final victory.
That meant Belcher and Ryan finished 22 points ahead of silver medallists Sweden (Anton Dahlberg/Fredrik Bergstrom), with Spain’s Jordi Xammar and Nicolas Rodriguez Garcia-Paz winning bronze.
Belcher reclaims the gold he won alongside Malcolm Page at London 2012, having also won Men’s 470 silver with Ryan at Rio 2016.
The Aussie sailors were in control from start to finish in Tokyo, winning four times and finishing inside the top three in four other races.
