CYCA Clubhouse to close

As Members will have heard by now, the Government has instructed all Registered Clubs to close indefinitely from midday today, 23 March 2020.

Accordingly the Clubhouse of the CYCA will be closed from that time and it will not be possible for Members to access the licenced premises i.e. the main Clubhouse building. So all food, beverage and retail operations will cease at that time, including take away.

At this stage, the closedown direction does not seem to extend to our marina and car park areas and so those aspects of the Club’s operations will be unaffected – however this of course may change. Similarly the John Messenger building will remain open for access to bathroom facilities and for our administration people to work from.

The Board meets tomorrow night to consider the options for the Club going forward and the CFO is undertaking modelling for the next six months to determine the financial position, particularly as regards our ability to retain employees and the need to look after their interests. We are also acutely aware of the impact of this direction on our tenants and contractors and will take into account their needs, as best we can, in our decision making.

This is of course a horrible position to be in, but we have the skills and resources on board to navigate our way through it. I expect to communicate with Members once again via the Sked on Wednesday.

Stay safe.
