The 17th edition of the iconic Lord Howe Island “classic Aussie” BBQ will be held at Ned’s Beach 1700hrs Tuesday 19 November 2019.
Started in 2003 in support of the Lord Howe Island Public School, the event is attended by an impressive roll call of classic Australian yachts, raising many thousands of dollars over the years.
Yachts rendezvous at Lord Howe Island after arranging one of the small number of moorings available and making their way approximately 420 nautical miles across the Tasman Sea (where one is always assured of some “weather!”).
All will gather at Ned’s Beach Tuesday 19 November to swap stories and enjoy a classic Aussie BBQ staged by school volunteers – the menu always includes plenty of legendary Lord Howe Island Kingfish.
Yachties will entertain themselves as they do with a quiet little drink and the telling of tall tales and true – some are even known to burst into song!
Also, an historical piece of Fidelis, which was chewed off in a storm while moored in South Passage, is inscribed and presented to the Classic Yacht or Sailor of the Year. After the festivities, the trophy is then kept on display at the school for next year’s event.
