CYCA claims bronze at 60th Congressional Cup

For the first time a CYCA team has placed in the top four at the Congressional Cup at Long Beach Yacht Club, California, claiming a bronze medal.

The team became the youngest sailors to podium at the world’s oldest annual match racing event.

A huge congratulations to Cole Tapper’s CYCA team, who broke into the top four and placed third in the 60th edition of the match racing regatta. What an enormous effort from Tapper and his team of George Richardson, Hamish Vass, Max Brennan, Nathan Gulliksen and Jack Frewin.

They won the Petit Finals against Dave Hood, 2-1, in light air and overcast conditions.

Tapper missed out on getting through to the finals, going down 3-0 to Chris Poole’s (USA) team. Poole went on to place second to Eric Monnin (SUI).

Ahead of the semi-final, Tapper spoke to Congressional Cup media: “The whole team is stoked to be in the semi-finals. Tomorrow, we’re going to focus on having fun because that’s when we operate the best.”

The YSA team were not the only CYCA Members competing, with YSA alumni Rob Scrivenor claiming silver with Chris Poole’s Riptide Racing and Ted Hackney finishing in fourth, sailing with DH3 Racing skippered by Dave Hood.
