Club Marine Wednesday Twilight – Race 16

This weeks Club Marine Wednesday Twilight saw a reduced fleet from the usual 60-70 entrants with only 36 yachts venturing out to the start line as throughout the day there was a forecast which suggested a strong front moving across Sydney in the middle of the afternoon.

As the day progressed the CYCA’s Race Management team were monitoring the situation, assessing the conditions and making decisions accordingly.

With this forecast in mind the decision was made to sail the crews on a shortened course which would allow for the race to be conducted and yachts to safely return to the Club before any adverse weather would arrive. The race was sailed in a light southerly breeze, much against what the forecast had predicted throughout the day with the Race Committee seeing a maximum of 10 knots during the race.

Divisional winners included Richard Williams’ Calibre in PHS DivA, Felice Syndicate’s Iluka in PHS DivB, Antony Sweetapple, Anthony Bruce and James Lee Warner’s Quetzalcoatl in PHS DivC and Michael Wolff’s Liberte in PHS DivD.

This weeks race also brought to a close the Club Marine Wednesday Twilight Summer Pointscore. With crews top six of the last seven races counting to their overall scores the first place divisional place holders were Sebastian Bohm’s Smuggler in PHS DivA, Vicki Hartley’s Sea Change in PHS DivB, Anthony Bruce and James Lee Warner’s Quetzalcoatl in PHS DivC and Bruce Druery’s Liaison in PHS DivD.

Racing will continue outside of the Summer Pointscore for the next three weeks. Racing will however be brought to an earlier start time of 1730hrs as the daylight hours shorten.
