Celestial extends lead in Noakes Summer 7s Series

The second round of the Noakes Summer 7s Series set sail last Thursday evening after a gale warning on Tuesday postponed racing once again.

Three races were conducted in a shifty easterly breeze in Rushcutters Bay as teams battled a busy Sydney Harbour.

Sam Haynes’ Celestial, with David Chapman on the helm, had another strong outing with two wins from the three races. Celestial continues to lead the series from defending champions Juno.

Reg Lord’s Juno team of YSA sailors Tom Grimes, James Hodgson and Murray Jones are now four points behind at the halfway point in the series.

Jeanna Claude-Strong had a consistent evening posting three third place finishes after missing the opening round of racing. Strong’s team also features YSA alumni Sam Newton and Seve Jarvin as crew.

This week will see the Noakes Summer 7s Series take place on both Tuesday and Wednesday evening, with six races to decide the champion.
