Last week, the Club was alive with 32 youth and female sailors, taking part in the Team Australia Challenge selection camp.
As the official entry path to the Youth and Women’s regattas held as part of the 37th America’s Cup, Barcelona 2024, it was a scene of friendly and vibrant competition, with familiar and new faces moving around the Clubhouse and Marina.
Sailors spent time listening to inspiring patrons, sailing on the Club’s fleet of Elliott 7s on Sydney Harbour and experiencing the AC Simulator, in the Academy Room at Winnings in Waterloo.
Since announcing the national entry opportunity in April 2023, and the launch of the Team Australia Challenge 2024, the organization has received 132 applicants from an impressive roll call of some of the leading sailors around Australia.
The two-and-a-half day program in Sydney included media training, team go-karting, and assessment time in groups of four in the high-tech AC40 simulator, now permanently based in Sydney.
Visitors to the Club included sailors from all over the country and included CYCA Members: Cole Tapper, Harry Hall, Harry Smith, Jake Liddell, Will Sargent, Evie Haseldine, Olivia Price, and Jess Grimes.
