52nd Rubber Kellaway Plate

This sun was shining and a moderate south-easterly provided a gentle way to break in the crews after the cancelled Monica Geddes Memorial Trophy race from the previous week and start the summer season.

The 52nd Rubber Kellaway Plate was run by Middle Harbour Yacht Club and marks the first race for the entrants in the Short Ocean Pointscore and Race 2 in the calendar for the Short Haul Pointscore crews.

With a south easterly breeze averaging 15 knots teams were able to shake off the cobwebs from winter with a course taking them outside Sydney Harbour to sail a windward-leeward course off south head before battling the chop in the sound to return to the finish line in Watsons Bay. It was a great turnout for the fleet with newcomers to the series including John Amos and his crew on the newly acquired Utopia.
