3 way tie at John Messenger Women’s Regatta

The John Messenger Women’s Match Racing Regatta got off to a great start on Sydney Harbour on Saturday 31 August with eight teams from Queensland, New South Wales and New Zealand taking part in this World Sailing Grade 4 event.

Although it wasn’t the clearest of skies, a moderate 10-16 knot southerly breeze provided ideal conditions for the teams of 4 of 5 female sailors. The race committee, led by Robyn Tames got away 40 races across the day, completing round robin 1 and the first three flights of round robin 2.

Three teams have emerged on equal points at the end of the day, with Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron’s Megan Thomson, Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club’s Juliet Costanzo and Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s India Howard all tied with 9 wins in an unbreakable scenario at the moment.

Emma Hyde (RNZYS) and Maddie O’Shea (RSYS) are then also tied in 4th and 5th positions, on 4 wins, with Hyde coming out on top in their tiebreaker, having beaten O’Shea in their race. Chasing hard for a semi-final berth will be Chelsea Williams (CYCA), Tanya Kelly (MYC) and Brooke Adamson (RNZYS).
