CYCA aiming for hat-trick of Hardy Cup wins

Two teams will this week represent the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia at the prestigious Hardy Cup Sydney International Match Racing Regatta, aiming to deliver a third consecutive win for our Club.

The Hardy Cup, which is the first international match racing competition in Australia since borders closed in early 2020, will be hosted by Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and feature four days of racing on Sydney Harbour from Tuesday 10 – Friday 13 May.

Eight teams representing Clubs from Australia and New Zealand will battle it out, with a final series between the top four teams to take place on Friday.

The CYCA’s teams are:

  • Finn Tapper (Skipper), Will Sargent, Cole Tapper, Jess Tavener and Ryan Ewings
  • Jack Littlechild (Skipper), Hugo Stoner, Nathan Gulliksen, Chelsea Williams and Hamish Vass

Finn led his team to victory in 2021, ensuring the CYCA retained the title won by Harry Price in 2020.

The Hardy Cup was initiated by CYCA Hall of Fame Member Sir James Hardy OBE, who sought to help further develop the match racing and tactical skills of youth sailors.

Sir James will be watching the action on board his classic yacht, Nerida.

The Hardy Cup fleet will race on the CYCA’s fleet of Elliotts, which have been loaned to RSYS for the regatta.

Good luck to all crews!
