Bright start to second round robin at Governor’s Cup for Cole Tapper and Will Sargent

Cole Tapper and Will Sargent have made a promising start to Round Robin 2 at the 2022 Governor’s Cup, winning both of their opening races to remain in contention to reach the semi-finals.

The two CYCA teams won four and lost three races on Day One, and closed out Round Robin 1 somewhat shakily, winning just one from their remaining four races.

That left both Cole and Will five points behind leader Jeffrey Petersen (USA), but within two of second-placed Marius Westerlind (SWE).

The start of the second round robin was more promising for the Youth Sailing Academy crews.

Cole, Finn Tapper and George Richardson opened with wins against Ansgar Jordan (USA) and Porter Kavle (USA), while Will, Jack Littlechild and Nathan Gulliksen beat Robbie McCutcheon (NZ) and Marius Westerlind (SWE).

Cole and Will are on seven points after two days, just a point behind the three second-placed teams.

Only three points separate places 2-10 and with nine races to go in the second round robin, the semi-final places are certainly up for grabs.
