Ian Edwards celebrates Wings' victory.

Wings soars to impressive win in Brisbane to Hamilton Island Yacht Race

Congratulations to CYCA Member Ian Edwards and his Wings crew on their impressive performance in the 2022 Brisbane to Hamilton Island Yacht Race.

Wings finished second on IRC and won on PHS.

Ian’s Dehler 46 stood out in a very competitive fleet, which included the three 100-foot maxis which participated in the 2022 Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race (Andoo Comanche, Black Jack and Hamilton Island Wild Oats), as well as IRC winner Trouble & Strife, Alive, No Limit and Stefan Racing.

Wings crossed the line in 3 days, 6 hours, 39 minutes and 28 seconds, winning PHS on corrected time from Trouble & Strife by just 30 seconds.

“Thanks to Jim W, Janease, David H, David C, Phil, Mark, Steve and Wings first timers Harry and Warren,” Ian said.

“Thanks also to everyone who over time sails on Wings for helping build the team skills and, most importantly, team spirit. I think many more than the team on board share in this result.”

David Gotze’s Reichel/Pugh 63 No Limit was also a strong performer, finishing fifth on IRC and fourth on PHS.

James Irvine’s Rogers 46 Mayfair was sixth on IRC and fifth on PHS, while Grant Wharington’s Botin 80 Stefan Racing was 11th and 10th on the two handicaps respectively.
