CYCA boats shine in Sydney Harbour Women’s Keelboat Series opener

The 2021-22 Sydney Harbour Women’s Keelboat Series got underway on Sunday 31 October, with four CYCA boats in the fleet.

Bridget Canham skippered David Chesters’ Payne 38 It Happens to second place overall and first in the Female Skipper (Non-Spinnaker) division.

CYCA Member Wendy Tuck was third overall on the J24 Pacatack, also taking out the Full Female Crew (Spinnaker) Division.

CYCA Member Katy MacDonald was at the helm of Vice Commodore Arthur Lane’s Beneteau Oceanis 51.1 Wilde Rushe, wish was third in the Full Female Crew (Spinnaker) division and seventh across the line overall.

Meanwhile, Janease Graham steered Ian Edwards’ Dehler 46 Wings to ninth across the line and fifth in the Female Skipper (Spinnaker) Division.

Following a successful inaugural edition, the Sydney Harbour Women’s Keelboat Series is again proving popular.

Gemma Burns, Australian Sailing Club Services Officer, said: “The weather was perfect for the first race of the series, with light winds, sun and a glamour day on the harbour to start the Summer.

“The start was exciting, with everyone nice and close. It was a really good fleet, pushing each other and enjoying the day.”

The remaining four races will be hosted by Middle Harbour Yacht Club, Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club and Manly Yacht Club.
