The New Year marks possibly the most exciting period of the year for match racing, for the CYCA Youth Sailing Academy sailors. Harry Price and his team will compete in the first major event for 2017, the Warren Jones International Youth Regatta later this month.
This year, the Royal Perth Yacht Club will host the annual Warren Jones International Youth Regatta from January 29 to February 3. Harry Price will be representing the CYCA for the first time at this event, with his team of Murray Jones, Matt Stenta, Harry Morton, Jack Hubbard and sister, Olivia, in what will be her first match racing event since the 2012 Olympics.
Price, currently ranked number five in the world, will take on 12 teams from Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Sweden. This includes defending champion Sam Gilmour (World Sailing #3) from Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, Matt Jerwood (World Sailing #8) from South of Perth Yacht Club and long-term Sydney rival Will Dargaville (World Sailing #13) from Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club.
For Price and team, this will be in preparation for the second event on the World Match Racing Tour for 2017, the Congressional Cup, held at Long Beach Yacht Club in California. This year marks 53 years of the longest running match race in North America, held from March 29 to April 2.
The Warren Jones Interntaional Youth is classed as a World Sailing Grade 2 event, and the format consists of a double round robin, quarter finals, semi-finals and ultimately the finals. Racing will be held in front of the Perth CBD for the first time in the history of the event.
