Sunday 30 October was Marine Safety Day at the CYCA, with presentations from various marine organisations, hypothetical scenarios explained step by step, interactive panel session and also demonstrations of how to set off flares.

The moderator for the day, David Salter, introduced Peter Kelly from the AMSA, Joel Nas and Leon Bush from NSW Amublance Helicopter Service, Steve Leahy from Westpac Surf Rescue, Sgt Paul Farquharson from NSW Water Police, Andrew Cribb from Volunteer Marine Rescue, and Peter Pokony from KORDIA Communications, who all gave presentations on the latest updates and technology in marine safety.

The panel of marine experts then advised and explained two living rescue scenarios; one offshore emergency situation, and one coastal incident. This interactive session allowed audience members to ask questions to the panel during the course of the day, and provide their own anecdotal experience of any marine safety situation they had found themselves in.

The RMS brought some of their rescue and patrol boats into the pond for Members to get on board and look around. The flare demonstration was both informative and exciting, as most members in the Club House watch on as the smoke flew up into the sky.

The CYCA would like to thank everyone who participated in the day, and thank those who donated to the CYCA's Marine Safety Day, especially the AMSA, NSW Ambulance Helicopter, Westpac Surf Rescue, KORDIA Communications, Volunteer Marine Rescue, Roads and Maritime Services, GME and Club Marine.
