Onshore Edition 134 - Monday 28 August
Message from the CEO

Onshore 28 August 2017

In the lead-up to Spring the air has turned decidedly cooler in the past few days, but thankfully we haven’t had any rain delays whilst the roof next door is being erected. Latest advice is that by close of business Wednesday we will have a completed roof.

Onsite Transit Wheelchair available

Belated thanks to the CYCA Breakfast Club for providing funding for a transit wheelchair sourced by the Associates Committee. Should you ever require the use of a transit wheelchair at the club, please either contact reception in advance of your visit or the Duty Manager whilst in the clubhouse.

Further thanks also to the Breakfast club for their continued support of the recently completed Winter Series breakfast catering. The wafting smells of bbq-ing bacon, eggs, sausages and onion are a welcome greeting during the Winter Series.

A Short History of the QLD

The Quiet Little Drink (QLD) was the definition of yachty hedonism. And even better, it was “all for a good cause”. Started in 1969 this was the kind of event that counted the number of beers consumed during each iteration. As the years passed however, the impact of the QLD extended beyond “drinking the Derwent dry” and led to some extremely worthwhile and important contributions to the CYCA and the home from home of our great race, Tasmania. This is a short history of the QLD.

2017 Quiet Little Drink Cocktail Party

The concept of the Quiet Little Drink Cocktail Party is for a Spring Party, to raise money for the YSA and to congratulate those who achieved “25 Hobarts” with the last race. Their names are now on the Honour Board and on the evening, each will be presented with a specially crafted Huon Pine plaque.

There are 6 to be so honoured, with a special first to a yachtswoman, Adrienne Cahalan. Along with her are: Michael Bellingham, Bruce Clark, Brad Kellett, Peter Sheldrick and Andrew TaylorWe hope their crews and friends will come along to congratulate them.

Along with the above segment in proceedings, we are particularly pleased to present plaques to those YSA alumni who sailed in their first Hobart. They will receive a bigger plaque after another 24 starts! Lauren Gallaway, Kat Stroinovsky, Ben Robinson and Charlie Gundy

The Quiet Little Drink Club sponsored one of the first YSA Elliotts in 1993. Since then has provided thousands of dollars in crew uniforms, travel, oilies and qualifying courses. Your attendance will help us to continue this most successful support.

COST: Donation $30 per head to YSA, light nibbles included

WHEN: Friday 8 September 2017

WHERE: Freya and Morna Rooms, CYCA

RSVP: As soon as possible
