Onshore Edition 132 - Monday 14 August
Message from the CEO

It was a very smoke-hazy start to the week after clear, blue skies yesterday for the opening race of the CYCA Spring series, complete with sightings of a playful mother and baby dolphin joining in the race.

Trip down ‘construction’ memory lane

I came across this time-lapse footage on the website of the hardstand under construction this time four years ago in August 2013. It’s amazing to see how the site has ‘functionally’ changed with this multi-use facility, including its location now as the Race Village during the RSHYR.

In another four years, the whole site will look very different again with the refurbished annex and clubhouse (annex work-site August 2017).

RSHYR 2016 Merchandise Clearance

In preparation for the RSHYR 2017, we are clearing out all 2016 merchandise at vastly discounted rates with items listed for flat prices of $20, $50, $75 and $99.

Check out the bargains in the foyer of the club from today with Maria always very happy to assist.

Matt Allen’s new TP52 Ichi Ban stormed to victory in Race 2 of the Short Ocean Pointscore taking the overall win on IRC and PHS, while further highlighting the credentials which will make his boat the one to watch in the run to the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race in December, and beyond.

The Admiral’s Cup Anniversary Regatta has already outgrown expectations, as David Salter reports.

Debut win for Ichi Ban in Blue Water Race 3

On only its fourth outing to sea and its first in competition, Matt Allen’s new Botin 52, Ichi Ban, ruled supreme in Race 3 of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s Blue Water Pointscore, the 200nm Newcastle Bass Island Race.

2017 Quiet Little Drink Cocktail Party

The concept of the Quiet Little Drink Cocktail Party is for a Spring Party, to raise money for the YSA and to congratulate those who achieved “25 Hobarts” with the last race. Their names are now on the Honour Board and on the evening, each will be presented with a specially crafted Huon Pine plaque.

There are 6 to be so honoured, with a special first to a yachtswoman, Adrienne Cahalan. Along with her are: Michael Bellingham, Bruce Clark, Brad Kellett, Peter Sheldrick and Andrew TaylorWe hope their crews and friends will come along to congratulate them.

Along with the above segment in proceedings, we are particularly pleased to present plaques to those YSA alumni who sailed in their first Hobart. They will receive a bigger plaque after another 24 starts! Lauren Gallaway, Kat Stroinovsky, Ben Robinson and Charlie Gundy

The Quiet Little Drink Club sponsored one of the first YSA Elliotts in 1993. Since then has provided thousands of dollars in crew uniforms, travel, oilies and qualifying courses. Your attendance will help us to continue this most successful support.
