Onshore Edition 127 - Monday 10 July
Message from the CEO

As this is the last full week in the lead up to the 2017 AGM, I would like to start Onshore this week by thanking the Commodore, Flag Officers and Board for their level of commitment, support and workload in the past 12 months.

With 13 committees to oversee, Board meetings and Club functions to attend and races to participate in, it’s a huge commitment, especially when everyone has a full-time job as well. A special thanks also to the partners and families of Board Members for sharing them so generously with the CYCA.

2017 AGM Correction

Contrary to what was written in Onshore recently, and with the best intentions to be more inclusive and open, it has been pointed out that our current constitution only allows for Full Members, Life Members and Country Members who are financial to attend the AGM. This was a misunderstanding on my part. I apologise for this error and any inconvenient it may have caused and there was never any intention to disregard the constitution ( clause 2.6) as it is currently written.

Top End Victory for CYCA

Congratulations to the CYCA YSA team of Cam Gundy, Tom Grimes, Dante Olivieri and Eric Sparkes for taking out the Inaugural Australian Maid Youth Match Racing Regatta hosted by the Darwin Sailing Club. By all accounts a very successful event.

Winter is coming…to an end.

This Sunday is the closing event in the 2017 Land Rover Winter Series with Ladies Day and Sails for Kids Day. The Prize Giving for this year’s Land Rover Winter Series is on Friday 21 July - book here

Section 96 public exhibition period

We are now in the public exhibition period for the Section 96 requesting the set up on a temporary clubhouse on the hardstand during the refurbishment of the current clubhouse. This closes on 10 August.

New Website

In additional to our annex and club refurbishment, our club website is soon to undergo its own refurbishment.

Following months of discussion and review at Technology committee meetings, which comprise representatives of all club committees, we believe we are on the right track to present Members with a new website by October.

The new site will be easier to navigate, it will be integrated with TopYacht and overall provide members and staff with an enhanced experience when visiting www.cyca.com.au.

More about this and the websites new features in the coming weeks.

Sponsorship opportunity

The club is looking for a sponsor for its drone coverage of the 2017 Land Rover Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race. Utilising state of the art drone technology, the race start will be shown live through the race website and be available through our social media channels, including Facebook and YouTube. If you are interested please contact Ross MacDonald, CYCA Marketing and Communications Manager for further information - ross.macdonald@cyca.com.au or 8292 7871

SPIRIT OF CRUISING - Tuesday 1 August 2017

CYCA Rani Room — 6.30pm

Guest Speakers; Evan Hodge and Kelly Clark of Nashira, a Bavaria Ocean 40, share their passion, preparation and anxiety as they prepared for their first cruising adventure to Tasmania.

Very new to yachting Evan, who had experience sailing dinghies and skiffs as a young boy, faced new challenges sailing as an 'above knee' amputee and Kelly having never sailed, embarked on a 6 day sailing course which ultimately changed the trajectory of their lives. They bought Nashira 3 months later.

Two and a half years after buying the boat they headed off on a 10 week adventure to Tasmania, crossing Bass Strait, sailing down the East Coast, then down and around to Port Davey and Bathurst Harbour.

They will share stories and photos of their trip including the preparation around safety, communications, victualing, route and weather planning and the anxiety of the unknown.

$30.00 for Spirit of Cruising dinner and meeting in the Rani Room.
