Onshore Edition 119 – Monday 15 May
Message from the CEO

Firstly, happy belated Mothers Day to all Mums for yesterday. It’s a shame the weather wasn’t kinder to celebrate under blue skies and sunshine, but hopefully being surrounded by family made up for that!

Following the recent visit to China by the Commodore and myself it’s amazing see the expansion of Aussie sports into this growing recreation sport market with a game of AFL in Shanghai and Chinese tourists visiting Australia wanting to learn to surf.

The CYCA is now a member of the Australia China Business Council, as well as a Member of the NSW Business Chamber to ensure our profile is heightened in both markets in the lead up to our 75th Anniversary and beyond.

Refurbishment gets underway with car park closure

A reminder that the small Member's car park, adjacent to the club, will be closed from midnight this Sunday, 21 May, in preparation for the start of the annex refurbishment on 22 May. It will remain closed until around November or when the annex work is complete and the site sheds removed. We will have no choice but to tow any car away that remains in the car park from this time as we can’t afford to have any unnecessary delays to having the office staff relocated in preparation for the RSHYR 2017.

Your cooperation with this is appreciated and we apologise for any inconvenience during this time. Consider the public parking option available now through Divvy Parking under the Vibe Hotel - more information here.

Last week all Members were emailed Newsletter #3 with a refurbishment update. Please follow updates on our website here.

Pacific Sailing School and our Marina and Maintenance offices are now fully operational in their temporary offices on the hardstand and the Shipwright will be located in a fitted-out container, also on the hardstand.

Ladies Night

Last Friday night around 100 Associate members and potential members attended a cocktail function at the Club. The Associates Committee used this as an opportunity to present SOLAS Chairman David Kellett with a $600 donation from funds raised at last December’s crew party. Two of our wonderful corporate partners in Oatley Wines and JANUS et Cie, provided fantastic prizes on the night and the ladies were treated to some lovely bubbly as well. Pictured is Associate’s President Pam Messenger presenting David with the cheque.

Growing loss of Club and Blond Catering property

This point has been raised before, but the losses continue to grow for both the CYCA and Blond Catering. Over $50,000 worth of Blond Catering cutlery and crockery has been removed from the premises over the past 12 months, in addition are thousands more dollars in jugs, ice buckets and glassware taken from the CYCA Sydney Hobart Bar.  If you have taken items to your boat, can you please return them…no questions asked. Both Blond and the club cannot continue to incur such unnecessary loses.

Oatley Rolling Vintage Bike Promotion winners

Winner of the Oatley Rolling Vintage Bike Promotion was former Commodore Geoff Lavis. Geoff and his wife Pippa were presented with the bike yesterday, Mother’s Day, by CYCA Duty Manager Liam. Many thanks yet again to Oatley Wine Merchants for their fantastic support of CYCA events and through their promotional activities such as this one.

Chief Executive Officer

Patrice makes perfect in Race 3 of the Land Rover Winter Series

After another tricky day on Sydney Harbour for Race 3 of CYCA’s Land Rover Winter Series, Tony Kirby showed just how fast his Ker 46 Patrice is, taking the win for the second week in a row.

Difficult day tests patience at the CYCA Land Rover Winter Series

The strong morning westerly winds made for a crazy day on Sydney Harbour for the Race 2 of the Land Rover Winter Series. The 96 yacht fleet started in a 13-18 knot west south-westerly wind, but the volatile conditions rapidly changed, causing mayhem and congestion around the course.
