Blue water Championship & Ocean Racer of the Year Awards Night

A very successful 2016-2017 Blue Water Championship & Ocean Race of the Year Awards night with MC Noel Cornish, ably assisted by Paul Billingham and Justine Kirkjian, was held last Friday night with around 120 people in attendance. Read more.

It was great to see ‘Robbo’ Robertson travel down from Queensland and Jim and Kate Delegat come across the ditch from New Zealand, just to attend the event. And to Sandy Eastman, many thanks for collecting the late Roger Hickman’s 2014-2015, ‘Ocean Veteran of the Year’ award.

Congratulations to the sailing office - Justine, Stephen and Tara for their hard work in putting the night together.

A good night was definitely had by all.

Australian Yachting Championship

Under blue skies and sunshine, a rarity in March, the 2017 Australian Yachting Championships wound up yesterday at the CYCA.

Again our Sailing office and volunteers are to be commended for their efforts, and a big thanks to Mother Nature (no, that wasn’t one of the entries) for shining through in the end.

RSHYR 2016 POST Race Survey

To date we’ve had a 25% response rate on our post-race survey which is a great result. If you haven’t already completed the survey, it only takes a few minutes, but the results and information we glean from this will have a much greater impact over a long period of time in planning for the 2017 race and especially the 75th landmark race in 2019 -  Please click here to complete the survey.

‘If it can be seen, it can be stolen’

This was the motto of a NSW Police Anti-theft campaign many years ago targeting motorists who leave valuables in sight of passers-by on car seats.  I happen to also think it’s relevant to boats on our marina. There has been a recent spate of theft from unlocked boats, with alcohol the most recent item to be stolen.

We are trying to track down culprits from CCTV footage, but leaving valuable in full sight of thieves and passers-by leads to opportunistic crime as well.

Youth Sailing Academy team finishes 4th at Ficker Cup

Harry Price and his DownUnder Racing team of YSA sailors Murray Jones, Matt Stenta, Josh Marks, Harry Morton & Sam Ellis have finished 4th in the Ficker Cup over the weekend hosted by Long Beach Yacht Club. It turned out to be a tricky event for the team who are using the event as vital training for this week’s World Match Racing Tour Congressional Cup event. After a slow start to the event with the team finishing Round Robin 1 in 7th out of 8, the boys bounced back to win Round Robin 2 and qualify or the semi finals. Matching up against LBYC local, Scott Dickson, the team went down fighting, eventually failing to make the finals 3-2. The team then stumbled in the petit final, going down 2-1 to Nevin Snow(USA). The Congressional Cup WMRT event will begin on Wednesday with live coverage via the wmrt.com website.
