Onshore Edition 111 – Tuesday 21 March
Message from the CEO

Development Application Update

We delayed the issuing of Onshore by 24 hours this week to advise Members of the outcome of our DA being discussed at Woollahra Council last night.

We’re delighted to advise that Council unanimously approved the DA, so it’s all system go for hopefully a May start on the Annex refurbishment.

Building tenders close on 7 April, so you might see a number of groups wandering around the Club doing site inspections in the lead up to this date. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress with this project through weekly and special editions of Onshore.

Land Rover re-signs

The CYCA is delighted to have Jaguar Land Rover once again on board as the naming rights sponsor for the upcoming Winter Series and Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race.

Australian Yachting Championships

This week the CYCA hosts the Australian Yachting Championships from 23-26 March with 16 entries.  We welcome crews from NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and New Zealand.

Illegally parked cars will now be towed away

Great news about the DA, but it makes this topic even more important in the coming months.

Yet another member was found last week to be in breach of the By-laws by leaving their car in the Members car park whilst away on holidays.

The CYCA Members car parks are not long-term car parks.

Long term parking in our car parks deprives other members of the opportunity of parking onsite when participating in events, or coming to use Club facilities. This is just not fair to members who do the right thing.

We recently had to cancel a contractor twice due to a car being illegally parked. This is totally unacceptable and costs the Club money !

With our DA now approved, changes to our car parks will be necessary to accommodate a range of contractors. Illegal parking during our renovations will be even more impactful to our daily operations.

We will have no hesitation in towing away illegally parked vehicles, especially when they are impeding the works to be undertaken to make our Annex completion date in preparation for the 2017 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

Towing costs will be passed onto the member who must then make their own arrangements direct with the towing company to retrieve their vehicle. This process is ‘kinder’ that what we were advised to do, and that was to tow the vehicle onto the street where it would potentially incur multiple parking fines.

Hopefully I won’t have to lecture on parking for a while now at least.

Introduce a potential new Member at ’Ladies Night’

On Friday 12 May the Associate Committee has organised another Ladies Night with the aim of introducing new female members to the Club.  So we encourage our female members to put that date in your diary and bring along a potential new member to enjoy some Friday night drinks and nibbles in the Freya Room.  A BIG thank you to Oatley Wines for their support of this event through product and lucky door prize gifts -pictured.

Bar Snacks

Commencing last Thursday at Badge Draw, members having a drink in the Coaster's Retreat can now order a range of bar snacks direct from the bar, which will then be delivered upstairs.

Member Profile - Carl Crafoord - Sail Exchange

With Members at the heart of this Club, the Board wants to shine a spotlight on those working in the marine sector whose story will be of interest to other members.

With this in mind, we are pleased to profile well known Club stalwart Carl Crafoord in this edition of Onshore and highlight his innovative Sail Exchange business – a great way that Members can turn their old sails into cash and also pick up a bargain!

So if you also have a business story worth profiling and an opportunity worth sharing and promoting to other members, well-written articles and a good photo(s) would be gratefully accepted and published through Onshore, and or our CYCA Facebook page.

We can’t promise to publish everything we receive, but if we can help members through promoting suitable stories from time to time, then we are keen to do so.
