Onshore Edition 108 - Monday 27 February
Message from the CEO

I’m starting this week’s Onshore with some positive stories before I get into some of the not-so-positive repeat, offending issues.

Congratulations to CYCA’s YSA sailors Finn Tapper, Tom Grimes, Nick Thyne & Paddy Dawson, 3-0 winners of the RPNYC Wellington Youth Sailing Scheme Centreport Wellington International 2017. They defeated the local team led by Ben Caundle from RPNYC. Well done boys!

You can see footage of this event and photo on the YSA Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/CYCAYSA/

Congratulations to Christopher Brooks - Member 5299 (pictured) who won $3000 at the Member's Badge Draw on 16 February, and more recently to John Keelty - Member 310 who won $600 last week! Your number might be up next, so make sure you're on Club premises from 6pm-7pm this Thursday for the draw.

It’s also good to see that entries in the Australian Yachting Championship are now up to 16 with a closing date of 17 March, so there’s still plenty of time register!

... And now for the not-so-positive stuff...

Illegal Parking

For the third time now in a few months a car has parked illegally (for some time) in the Members car park adjacent to the Clubhouse. This behaviour is totally unacceptable and contravenes the By-laws.

The Club has taken measures to identify vehicles and the police have assisted in offending vehicles being removed.

The latest offender is the owner of a blue Porche Boxtster rego number BU 65 NX. If anyone knows who owns this vehicle, could you please let us know asap.

CYCA reception

In addition to sailing items left around the Club, I’ve recently been made aware of the Club reception address being given out as the delivery for parcels of all shapes and sizes. Many remain uncollected for long periods whilst Members are away on holidays or overseas.

We can’t be responsible for the security of Members deliveries for extended periods, nor do we have the space at reception to store parcels.

I appreciate that a delivery to reception is convenient and acceptable from time to time with advance notice by the Member, but this has unfortunately been abused. The reception staff want to assist Members where possible, but we can’t provide a post box service.

CYCA EOFY Happy Hour in March

And to finish on a Happy (hour) note, the Sydney Hobart Bar is having a CYCA EOFY Happy Hour promotion on Tuesdays and Fridays throughout March, commencing this Friday 3 March.

From 6pm-7pm, Carlton, Victorian Bitter and Cascade light beers and House Chardonnay and House Red wines will be $4.00 only.

So instead of me having to have a  whine, I ‘d much prefer for Members to come and have a pleasant Happy Hour wine with friends and guests instead !

Sailors with disABILITIES - Making Waves Regatta

Sailing on Sydney Harbour, over 20 boats will race in the Regatta and all funds raised will support children with disability and those who face adversity. The more funds SWD raises through this foundational event, the more children can come on board SWD’s specially adapted boats for life-changing sailing experiences. Thank you for your support!
You can learn how you can come on board or donate to the Regatta here.
