Onshore Edition 106 - Monday 13 February
Message from the CEO

Sending our best wishes

I’d like to start this week’s Onshore by sending our best wishes for a speedy recovery to Ken Hudson who had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance at last week’s Badge Draw.

I would also like to use this opportunity to thank Members and CYCA staff who provided medical assistance and support for Ken and Pauline until the Ambulance arrived, in particular Margaret Butler and Adam Barnes and CYCA staff Members Michael Neumann, Marina Gibson and Liam Kentwell.

Ken was in caring hands all the way and I know from talking to Pauline that if ever she felt a sense of community, it was last Thursday night.

$3,000 must be won this Thursday!

And speaking of the Badge Draw, given the turn of events at last week’s draw, we didn’t get a chance to remind Members that this Thursday’s badge draw is the last of our 2016/2017 permit period, so the Jackpot of $3000 must be won!

Thank you to this week’s sponsor Gold Coast City Marina and Shipyard and all other sponsors throughout the year.

The badge draw starts at 18:15 with four draws at 15 minute intervals.

If after the 4 normal draws there is no winner, the prize pool will be paid to a Member in attendance randomly selected.

Remember you must be present at the time your number is drawn.

Next week’s draw goes back to $600.

CCTV

Members are advised that the Club’s CCTV system has now been extended to include the main Member's Car Park, the Hard Stand and the Marina (pictured). In future, if a vehicle damages the boom gate, we will be able to identify the perpetrator and claim back the costs of replacing the boom gate, something which has happened far too regularly.

Valentine's Day - We have all bases covered

Tomorrow, 14 February is Valentine’s Day or 'Galentine’s Day' as I heard recently for the first time.

So whether you are celebrating a romantic night out as a couple, or a night out with a few ‘bestie’ girlfriends on 14 February, let Blond Catering indulge you with their special three-course dinner.

And if you are looking for a special Valentine’s Day gift for a sailing partner, why not buy them a Nots by Heckman bracelet (pictured) through the Surreal Jewellery online shop and support youth sailing at the CYCA at the same time. A percentage of bracelet sales will go towards the CYCA Youth Sailing Academy. The promotion code for the CYCA is - CYCA2017

Members will need to include this code at the ‘Apply Coupon’ section on the web page of their cart in order for the sale to be tracked.

Members supporting Members

When you join a club, you join a personal and professional community. To encourage Members to support other Members in a Business sense, we developed a Business Directory for Members to promote themselves and offers to other Members. This is soon to be updated, but in the meantime, please review what is currently on offer and see if you can contribute to enhancing Membership value, along with enhancing awareness of your own business at the same time.

In closing

February 15 is a significant date to me personally, as it marks my first anniversary at the CYCA.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the current and former Board Members and Commodores, the Committees and all Members and staff for welcoming me to the Club.

Change comes with challenge, but please know that my decisions, opinions and decision-making comes from a place of respect from those who have preceded me, those who I currently work with and my 30 plus years working in sport, sporting venues and with Memberships.

Thank you one and all - one year down and hopefully a few more to go!

KAREN GREGA

Chief Executive Officer
