Club encourages members to support CYCA’s SOLAS charity through the promotion of the regatta to their business networks as an ideal option for staff Christmas parties, or provide their boat on the day for existing corporate donors. Fiji holiday prize competition for early boat providers.

Over 23 years the Rotary Charity Regatta has helped raise around $4million for many worth causes, with a new partnership with SOLAS set to mean an increase in funding for the CYCA’s charity.

The CYCA Sydney to Hobart Race SAFETY OF LIFE AT SEA Trusts (CYCA SOLAS TRUSTS) were established following the tragic loss of six lives in the 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. The Trusts' objectives are to assist the immediate needy family of those lost at sea during Australian Sailing sanctioned races; provide assistance to search and rescue organisations, and foster research and training to improve procedures and equipment for use at sea.

Along with the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation, the SOLAS Trusts have been a major beneficiary of the Rotary Charity Regatta with the new agreement aimed at creating even greater donations for both organisations starting with the upcoming edition on Friday, 17 November 2017.

The now renamed Rotary SOLAS Charity Regatta will enjoy the same successful format of previous years where yacht owners offer their boat for the event while sponsors pay to put a team on board for light hearted competition. After taking on a gold, silver or bronze package, which is directly linked to the number of competitors each team consists of, the crews will wine and dine at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia for a true sailing experience.

Chairman of the CYCA SOLAS Trusts Board, David Kellett, commented, “After many years of close co-operation with the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove and yacht owners at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and other Sydney Yacht Clubs to stage the annual Rotary Charity Regatta, SOLAS is pleased to formalise the association. We look forward to working closely with Rotary, the Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick and the CYCA to build the Regatta and the fundraising.”

Mr Kellett added, “Over the years SOLAS has received donations of $115,000 from the Rotary Charity Regattas which has been passed on to rescue organisations to help protect sailors in all States of Australia.”

Once again the November regatta racing will be conducted by the CYCA in three divisions in a fleet handicap start. Prizes and trophies will be on offer for sponsors and yacht owners in each division with sponsors encouraged to outfit guests and crew in corporate polos, caps, spray jackets and the like to generate exposure for their company and a corporate feel to the day. Corporate signage on the yachts is also encouraged and there will be a separate prize and trophy for the best presented yacht and crew on the day.

The event success stems from its offer of something different for end-of-year (17th November 2017) client entertaining, staff rewards, team building, incentive programs. Held on a Friday afternoon the Regatta is all about a yacht race on Sydney Harbour with 50 yachts of various shapes and sizes competing. Expected to be involved once again in 2017 will be some of Australia's best known blue water ocean racers such as Wild Oats X, Southern Excellence II, Sydney and Ichi Ban.

If you have a business colleague that is interested in joining on the day they can enter on the website HERE. Early entries will be in with a chance of winning flights and accommodation for a week at the Musket Cove Island Resort in Fiji.
